Maltalife De Robertis Restaurant

One of the longest established eateries in Valletta, De Robertis Restaurant occupies the terrace of the former palace formerly known as Palazzo Xara, that is also home to the Hotel Castille.

The Palazzo Xara belonged to Capitano Giacomo De Robertis and dates back to the turn of the 17th Century, it lies between the Knights’ cannon-fronted baroque Auberge de Castille (aka The Prime Minister’s office) and the Upper Barracca Gardens overlooking the famous Harbour. It also shares the square with the oldest church in Valletta and St James Cavalier (a modern day arts venue, formerly part of Valetta’s defences).

Renowned for its unfussy, fine cuisine, local beers and wine. De Robertis draws on the Islands’ Mediterranean influences for inspiration that are served alongside Maltese specialities (including the national dish, rabbit stew).

De Robertis is famous throughout these islands for its open-air terrace dining area with spectacular views of Valletta, The Grand Harbour and surrounding districts. A notably romantic, upmarket setting for dinner, De Robertis is a vibrant venue at lunchtime where it enjoys the patronage of both visitors and the capital’s business community.

The Times of Malta say that ‘the restaurant is well known for its refined cuisine at affordable prices’ and that seems like a fair summary of a venue where the location alone, makes it worthy of a visit.
